Weekend speculation concerning whether Gerry Adams was ever a member of the IRA followed comments by Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern in which he said that he had always "assumed" Adams had been in the IRA carried a degree of unreality. Was John Lennon ever in the Beatles?
