It's Good to Talk

According to the findings of a poll by the Electoral Commission, the United Kingdom is a 'hotbed' of political debate. Over 14 million conversations of a political theme are held every day.

In that case how strange it is that levels of voter participation are at an all-time low - and decreasing election after election. Perhaps if the report had followed its own logic it would have concluded that apathy is rampant in contemporary Britain because the electorate is governed by a sad collection of third-rate individuals with virtually nothing in the way of principle, courage and conviction. Politicians prefer to accentuate their own career aspirations at the expense of those who thrust them into the spotlight of parliamentary eminence. They can't seriously expect the people to go on endorsing them in the pursuit of that goal.
