JOB LOSSES....
I was sorry to read of the decision taken by textile firm Desmonds to go into voluntary liquidation today - following the decision taken by Marks and Spencers not to renew it's contract. In these circumstances, there is no right and wrong. Many people will lose their jobs, and all the security that goes with that, and for them I sympathise. However, in the broad commercial marketplace Desmonds were just not up to scratch. So that's it - cruel but fair. It's survival of the fittest - and Desmonds are but the latest casualty of the global changes in textile manufacturer and sourcing.
