McConnell's Pressing Engagement

Jack McConnell, First Minister of Scotland's woefully expensive talking shop (the Scottish Parliament for the unfamiliar), has decided that the forthcoming anniversary of D-Day is not important enough to divert his attention from the prospect of haute cuisine and Royal conviviality at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St Andrews.

It matters not to Mr McConnell that this weekend marks the 60th anniversary of one of the most strategically important battles of WWII. He prefers the ambience of the Fife coast to representing his part of the United Kingdom at an internationally recognised homage to men who sacrificed their lives so that he could live in freedom. What a disgrace!
