Mother Inferior

One can never fail to be amazed by the sheer nauseating hypocrisy shown by Irish republicans. As Sinn Fein/IRA Akela, Gerry Adams, toured Galway his boots must have been drenched in showers of obsequious spittle as the fans gathered around. Of course, it goes without saying that the cretins who rushed up to shake his blood-stained claws must have had all the memory capacity of a koi carp, or else simply banished the spectre of 1800+ murders from their tainted consciences.

What was most staggering about this little walkabout was the story of Ann-Marie Carroll. Here is a woman who has a daughter about to embark on work as a nun: a lifetime of ecclesiastical tutelage, Christian theological teaching and spiritual purification - carrying the message of God far and wide. In the meantime, 'mommie dearest' is hopeful about becoming a councillor representing a 'party' with the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of innocent people on its curriculum vitae. Isn't Ms Carroll a tad aware of the inherent contradiction here?

Voters in the Irish Republic have a straight choice on June 11th. They can demonstrate to we Unionists that their country is reasonably forward-looking and tolerant, or they can demonstrate that atavistic nationalism and the thirst to acquire territory to which they are not entitled still underpins much of their political outlook. Let us hope they choose the former.
