Failing Femininity

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this picture (and the story to which it relates) distinctly repulsive? Call me old-fashioned if you like, but I do believe women should look like women, and men should look like men. Doubtless my sentiments will have the Beatrix Campbell and Germaine Greer disciples reaching for their sick bags.

There is something strange afoot in contemporary society. We seem to take delight in publicising anything which extols abnormality - be it the female musclefest mentioned above, or the Gay Pride march in London. Don't misunderstand me, I have known several gay people and I hold no candle for homophobia. However, nobody with sound mind could possibly argue that homosexuality is consistent with the natural process of human reproduction. As for this crowd puller, the fact that 35,000 people from across Northern Ireland - and beyond - will be flocking to see a coterie of 'females' with perma-tans, greased abdomens and bodies resembling a condom stuffed with walnuts, fills me with doubts about their collective sanity.

I like to date females who take pride in their femininity and gentility. I wouldn't countenance a romantic liaison with a woman who could lift me aloft and use my 158lb frame as a bench press. Why do we increasingly tolerate the publicity of the aberrant, whilst seeking to undermine traditional values and the norms of human interaction and role-play? What do you think?
