Brownshirts See Red
I see Conor Murphy, the akela of Sinn Fein members at the Stormont Assembly, refuses to acknowledge that the PSNI raid on their offices in October '02 was not politically motivated. David Vance is right when he states Sinn Fein have no democratic (in the truest sense of the word) to sit in Stormont, anyway. I would have preferred it if, instead of removing various technological appurtenances, the PSNI had actually physically removed every Sinn Fein MLA from the building - preferably in a highly painful manner. That said, my approach to this issue is slightly different from David's. I wish to show how Sinn Fein/IRA's response to this issue indicates it will never support any police force that is not beholden to the whims of terrorist control.
What is the purpose of a police force? Well, it is, of course, to uphold the laws of the state in which the force operates. By extension, the police also uphold, and if necessary defend, the integrity of the state. Debates over the quality, operational effectiveness or discriminatory recruitment practices of the PSNI in comparison with its predecessor are irrelevant to the fundamental tenet of the policing raison d'etre I am arguing here. No police constabulary anywhere in the world could operate in the absence of a central duty to work on behalf of the same state in which it deploys its authority.
Sinn Fein/IRA does not recognise the integrity of the British State. It has murdered, mutilated, exiled and intimidated innocent people in a quest to undermine the lawfully authority and territorial integrity of the United Kingdom as currently constituted. There is no evidence to suggest, despite the con artistry of Trimble et al, that Sinn Fein is any closer to taking account of the rightful existence of the Union - based on law and democratic choice. Ergo, this mottley band of cut-throat scumbags will only ever support a 'police force' shorn of duty to the country and, concomitantly, controlled by the terrorists themselves.
Thus, when 'Slasher' Murphy (the anticipated future MP for Newry and Armagh thanks to the radicalised republican pond life now living there) states that: 'It is the view of Sinn Fein and indeed the vast majority of nationalists that the staged managed raids on the Sinn Fein Offices at Stormont were politically motivated....', he is merely trying to further encourage opprobrium and antagonism towards the police as the British State defenders of law and order. The next time the PSNI have to raid the offices of terrorist apologists, I trust they will remove the personnel concerned as well as any computerised accoutrements.
