THE GREAT "A" LEVEL SCANDAL.
Well, first off, congratulations to all those students who celebrate the arrival of their "A level" results today in England, Wales and NI. I can remember the anxious wait on getting my own A Levels about a hundred years ago! I hope the wait has been worth it.
However - the "A level", once perceived as the "gold standard" in secondary education, has become tarnished beyond belief thanks to successive Conservative and Labour Governments meddling to ensure they can bathe in the reflected glory of ever-rising grades. The pass rate, for this most "rigorous" of exams, is 96%!
David Milliband, the creepy Minister for Education, was quick to make the point that one should congratulate the students and the teachers for all the hard work they have done. He added that carping about the lowering of academic standards has no basis in fact, but that should such a fact ever be established by Independent Commissions (set up by the Government) then that would be something he would have to look into!! Yes Minister!
We are witnessing the dumbing-down of our entire education system. These results are a cause for celebration for left-wing ideologues in the Labour Party who push egalitariarism at all costs and for those Teaching trade unions who can't think beyond how much money their members can obtain. The only people who lose out are employers (I have interviewed graduates unable to spell or count) and the students themselves, defrauded by a repugnant Educationalist elite and a political class that should have NO involvment in education.
Anyone who wants to know more about this should read up on Melanie Phillips or Chris Woodhead - they expose the scam in detail.
