Terrorists at the Ready
Conor Murphy has told the Irish News of the preparedness of the IRA's proxies for the forthcoming talks designed to revive the moribund Belfast Agreement. We have already had a foretaste of the new list of demands the Brownshirts will be presenting to Paul Murphy's supine team. He claims 'Sinn Fein have spent the summer in preparation' (as the Ardoyne riots testify) and republicans are now sufficiently confident to have another stab (oops, Freudian slip!) at contorting and bastardising democracy in an integral part of the United Kingdom.
Murphy's suppressed optimism calls into question the stance of the DUP come September. The pro-Union people did not make Paisley's party the 'top dog' in pro-Union politics only to watch them ape the mistakes and the adynamia of Trimble's crowd. If the 'modernisers' in the DUP hold sway, thereby bestowing on peace-loving democrats the nightmare of power sharing with killers, the party deserves to forfeit its hard-won place at the top of the Unionist electoral tree. Time will tell.
