TIME TO AXE THE NHS.
Once again the dangers of the NHS become apparent, as picked up here on An Englishman's Castle. With medical errors now constituting almost one quarter of deaths in the UK per year, isn't it obvious that the Stalanist structure of the NHS was torn apart? Isn't it high time that we faced up to the fact that a Government controlled Health system is inappropriate in the 21st Century.
I am in the process of writing a response to the Rev. Martin Smyth's rather populist and illl-considered plea to "keep our NHS" and hope the Belfast Telegraph will print it. The bottom line is that the STRUCTURE and STRATEGY behind the NHS is deeply flawed and no amount of money thrown at it can make it work. I know there are some brilliant people working within the NHS - many at ward level - but their jobs are poorly rewarded, the working environment is frequently unacceptable - and the opportunity to deliver what the customer (i.e. patient) wants is unlikely.
No politician will tell the truth about the NHS for fear of losing votes. Luckily, I'm not a politician. More on this topic next week. Does anyone reading this work in the NHS - do you feel frustrated by how it is run? How would you see it being improved?
