Utley's Utterances
How I loved this wonderful submission from Daily Telegraph columnist, Tom Utley (son of the late, great TE Utley). The insane, tortuous procedures afflicting just about every portion of life in Britain today result from levels of officialdom and the overriding obsession with bureaucracy. I don't know what the situation is in other countries, but here in Britain we will soon be at the stage where people will have to sign waivers, affi davits, insurance forms and health certificates in triplicate before they can pee in a public lavatory. Now I know why the forests of the Amazonas are disappearing so fast: it is to provide all the sheets of paperwork necessary to bestow legitimacy on, and inflate the egos of, the imbeciles who conceive and implement all this bureaucracy.
Moreover, the ability of the State to devise ways of extracting more money from the depleted wallets of the people who live therein seems to have increased exponentially since that terrible day when Labour took office. And, with vehicular-related costs bearing the brunt of this legalised highway robbery, it is we poor car owners who have suffered the most. I have every sympathy with Mr Utley.
