A Welcome Matt for Kerry
How come I'm not surprised by the latest Hollywood acts pledging their support for John Kerry. We are now told that Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson will be offering their services in aiding the election campaign of a man fundamentally incapable of telling the American people the truth about his own war record. Surreal!!
I like Matt Damon. He has starred in some excellent movies. I also have a great admiration for the American film industry. What I can't stomach, however, is the myopic support of so many moguls in Hollywood for anyone who rides on a Democratic ticket. I am aware that Kerry's support for just about anything under the guise of liberal enfranchisement would suit the 'hello darlings, anyone for tennis?' world of the average actor. But I do think that actors are better placed involving themselves in the art for which they are famous, as opposed to seeking cheap publicity - especially on behalf of a man who lacks charisma, ambition for the United States, a willingness to tackle the war on terror, and would vote for compulsory chicken molestation if he thought it would enhance his credentials as an all-embracing liberal.
There is nothing more stomach-churning than seeing actors you've always admired for their talent, supporting politicians and political ideas you have nothing but the utmost contempt for. Being an ardent Democrat might be the ultimate accolade in permissive Hollywood, but it does not alter the fact that a Kerry presidency would alter the strategic balance of power in the terrorists' favour.
