Happy Birthday!



I know you could hardly call this blog political, but I couldn't let the day pass without wishing a happy 87th birthday to one of my all-time favourite actors, Mr Herbert Lom. Born on this day in 1917 in what is now the Czech Republic, he has starred in some fantastic movies - including El Cid, North West Frontier, Spartacus, Hell Drivers and, of course, as Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus in the timelessly classic Pink Panther films.



These days, Herbert Lom (or Herbert Charles Angelo Kuchacevich Schluderpacheru as he is officially known) is more preoccupied with writing than he is with the acting fraternity. He continues to live quietly in North London, having done so since the end of World War II. I salute this enduring giant of the movie screen!
