CHANGING TIMES.
The DUP "has not ruled out"accepting a target date for the transfer of policing and justice powers to a revived Stormont executive, its deputy leader has said. Peter Robinson stated that any target would have to reflect opinions across the community about whether Northern Ireland politicians were ready to take on the job.
This is another great example of the loathsome weakness of the DUP under Mr. Robinson. It's perfectly obvious that the "pragmatists" (or the politically flexible, to more precise ) are increasingly prepared to adopt a position that is almost indistinguishable from Mr. Trimble. Alex Kane points this out in his column in this morning's Newsletter, and whilst I cannot accept Alex's contention that the UUP are going to make a come back, I can agree that the DUP's principles are becoming more threadbare by the day.
