MUZZLING THE PUP.

The UVF's political proxies in the "Progressive Unionist Party" hold their annual conference in Belfast today. Readers may know that I hold nothing but contempt for this bunch of IRA/Sinn Fein doppeldangers but I did have to laugh when I read that apart from listening to the loquacious drivel of their Party Leader David Ervine, the faithful will also focus on sectarianism, the use of art as a learning tool to tackle disadvantage and re-employment for people recovering from mental illness. See - they're so caring! They're cuddly-wuddly and have nothing to do with the vile gangsters in the UVF, for whom they provide "political analysis."

It is a great shame that Ervine did not lose his Assembly seat last November, but at least Hutchinson did. The people who vote for these PUP creatures are just as politically confused, radicalised or malignant (you choose) as those who vote for Sinn Fein. The only saving grace is that, thankfully, relatively few vote for the PUP. This in itself is remarkable given the huge public platform the media provide to Ervine. His witless pontifications are frequently treated with hushed difference, instead of being laughed out of court.
