Like a hole in the head. Hans Blix that is, the insufferable former UN weapons inspector, who more closely resembles Inspector Clouseau, is at it again. This time in the wacko-leftist Independent, Blix drones on about how great the UN sanctions regime would have been , and even IF it had been lifted, Saddam wouldn't have got those elusive WMD. This is lapped up by the infantile UK leftist press without any sense of balance. So let me provide a few pointers for the more "independently" minded out there.



First, Blix. Before Kofi and the boys appointed him to Chief Weapons Insoector, 74-year-old Blix's tenure as director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency—the U.N. organization that enforces compliance with the nuclear non-proliferation treaty—from 1981 to 1997, earned the Swedish diplomat a reputation as Mr. Magoo crossed with Inspector Clouseau. His most dramatic failure occurred when IAEA failed to uncover Iraq's nuclear program during the late 1980s.



As Blix told the Guardian earlier this year, "It's correct to say that the IAEA was fooled by the Iraqis." When the Security Council settled on Blix as chief weapons inspector in 2000 the New York Times editorial page blasted him as a "man of uncertain resolve," a "disappointing choice," and "a disturbing sign that the international community lacks the determination to rebuild an effective arms inspection system in Iraq." It's not often you can believe the Grey Lady, but this time she was right.



Still, leave Blix's less than impressive history to one side. After all, liberals don't care about history.



Blix knew that Saddam was lying about surrendering his WMD programs, but as Blix admits HIMSELF in his memoirs, he kept that thought to himself!! Despite all the evidence found by the U.S. of clandestine labs and illegal missile deals with North Korea, Blix says that Saddam had disarmed. Given more time, Blix would have given Saddam a clean bill of health and the green light for lifting sanctions.



Yet Duelfer, in his new report, has revealed that Saddam could produce mustard gas in months and nerve agents in under a year. Once again we see the utter uselessness of the UN and their hired lackeys like Blix.
