Doing what They Do Best.......well almost
Sinn Fein/IRA were busy during my London absence. According to UTV Sinn Fein 'supporters' were let loose from their cages to cause mayhem and havoc on major thoroughfares of Belfast during the busiest shopping day of the week. They are no better than thugs who used to subject pro-Union communities to wanton vandalism and destruction when the Orange Order in Portadown was wrongfully denied its entitlement to parade along the Garvaghy Road.
There is, however, a great deal of difference between the general approach of the Orange Order and that of Sinn Fein/IRA. The former did not encourage supporters to behave in the way they did during the debacles of the mid-90's. Orange Order defenders (I count myself among them) were not responsible for the actions of the people who embroiled themselves in attacks on businesses and property owned, in the main, by fellow Protestants. Since the Order became aware of the negativity which arose from Drumcree, they have actively encouraged all who feel genuinely vexed at the denial of basic rights to desist from violence. It has worked! Since 1999 there has been little in the way of the scenes witnessed between 1996 and 1998.
Sinn Fein/IRA on the other hand is a movement whose entire political agenda is formulated by the threat or actual use of violence and/or disruption. If the forces of authority do not weigh in behind republicans and their nefarious agenda to imperceptibly destroy the marching culture of Protestant Orangeism, the province as a whole suffers. Like the radical Islamists of the Middle East, Sinn Fein activists are motivated by passions of perverse proportions to cause trouble wherever they may be. Now that the avenue of explosive-oriented pleasure is closed off, they have to formulate trouble over other issues pertaining to any cultural, physical, economic or political manifestation of the underlying Britishness of Northern Ireland.
Sinn Fein/IRA are the scumbags waxing lyrical about Orange supporters 'flouting the law'! These cut-throat hoodlums have been flouting the law since the foundation of Northern Ireland, in one way or another. Unlike a large percentage of pro-Union voters who were simply dismayed by the disruption following Drumcree, I have not doubt the pontifical bedlamites who continue to give Sinn Fein electoral credence will rush with indecent haste to defend their actions in the name of the 'poor, oppressed Oirish.' Never underestimate the capacity of Irish nationalists to swallow any bullshit fed to them by political leaders.
