McDowell Gladdens the Heart

It is pleasantly reassuring to see the Irish Republic's Justice Minister, Michael McDowell, continuing to berate the Irish Brownshirts. I rather suspected the recent Sinn Fein surge in the Republic, courtesy of an unsavoury Southern infatuation with terror, would stymie criticism from a governing coalition badly dented in the same poll. McDowell's onslaught proves that there is at least one principled person in the Republic's Executive unbowed by fascist invigoration.

McDowell is right. Any criticism of murder coming from Sinn Fein representatives is tantamount to contemporary German fascists expressing displeasure at Israeli defence tactics on the West Bank. It would appear there is no limit to the attempts made by the IRA's wranglers to expunge their own massive culpability. Thus, Sinn Fein TD's shout louder than most when it comes to debate about the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, yet deliberately ignore their own unequalled murderous contribution to the Troubles. As for Sinn Fein comparing Britain's alleged 'role' in the Dublin and Monaghan incidents to the tyranny of Saddam's Iraq, I feel the obvious lunacy of this analogy will be suitably mocked by all who care to read it.
