THE SPIRIT OF DRUMCREE HAS BEEN EXORCISED
So here we are - Drumcree Sunday. For those unfamiliar with this event, this is what happens:-
An Orange Order church parade commerating the sacrifice of thousands of Ulster-men (and Irish-men)at the Somme in 1916 is banned from processing down the main road into Portadown because an intolerant Republican-led rabble have declared cultural apartheid and the gutless Government of the UK endorses this position.
The "leadership" of the Orange Order has split over the issue, there has been no guidance of any sort, and the result is that the will of the Orange Order has been broken. They are either too stupid or too complacent to do anything about it.
So instead of a nationwide public display of unionist outrage at the Government's cowardly position on this issue, instead we will witness a token protest consisting of a handing in of a letter. How pathetic is that?
The Orange Order would be more honest if it admitted that, like the useless Apprentice Boys, it has morphed into a mere historical society. It should drop the pretence that it seeks to uphold civil and religious liberty when it is apparent that it does not.
I have always supported the right of the Orange Order to peacefully parade wherever it wants. But this gutless brainless compromise, led by David Jones and a few other half-wits in the District, is just SAD. The spirit of Drumcree has been exorcised. Bye Bye.
