As Oscar-winning composer Elmer Bernstein at the age of 82 rides off for the final time into the Californian sunset – I am sure many of us will continue to get pleasure from his great musical scores. My favourite is the evocative theme to The Magnificent Seven. It’s the sort of tune to keep us right-wing mavericks sitting proud in our saddles as we survey the terrain and all those lefty critters that need dealt with! He was a great composer and leaves the world a less tuneful place.
