UNTIL THE PIPS SQUEAK.....
The promise from former Labour Chancellor Denis Healey to "squeeze the rich until the pips squeak" is always present in British leftism. Hence the report carried by the BBC today that the "rich" should be hit with a 50% inheritance tax to allow cuts for the middle classes, a think tank has said.
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) said the chancellor could raise £147m a year and cut death duty for up to 90% of people. It said estates of more than £808,000 could be taxed under a banded system. The left of centre organisation said Gordon Brown should use the extra cash to help Britain's poorest youngsters through the Child Trust Fund
This story is covered over at An Englishman's Castle as well. This site is always worth a visit!
So, where do YOU start?
First, who are the "Rich" these days? With house prices zooming up, and even in places like Northern Ireland property seems to float around the £100,000 for first time buyers, one regularly sees houses for sale between 500K-1M. More and more families are moving into this sector and these are the people that the carrion crows in Government want to feed on. Of course leftists try to cover their tracks on this by suggssting that it is the landed gentry, the city whizz-kids, and the captains of Industry they are after. More lies!
Second, what RIGHT has Government to steal money from families anyway?
Third, the kiddies, the poor little kiddies. Labour always uses this trash argument to excuse it's lust for fiscal theft. Kiddies have NOTHING to do with Government.
Unless we get rid of Labour, it is clear that taxation on enterprise will escalate, that the Middle-Class will have their pips squeezed until they finally squeak, but by that time the UK will have become too much of an over-taxed over-regulate basket case for anything to be done.
