An Unholy Alliance: Irish America and PIRA
Oh dear! Irish Americans have been spitting blood over recent times at the very accurate analogy from White House adviser, Karl Rove, when he likened America's war on terrorism to our fight against the bloodthirsty criminals of Northern Ireland over 3 decades. Rove must really have touched raw nerves in the Irish drinking hovels of South Boston and elsewhere. Because, for a certain mentally sick section of the Irish American populace, Irish terrorists are 'sugar and spice and all things nice', whereas Islamic terrorists embody 'snaps and snails and puppy dogs' tails.'
Frank Durkan, a New York attorney and the quintessence of this sickening hypocrisy, responded by saying that the IRA had been operational in order to achieve 'equality, civil rights and, ultimately, national independence.' Pray tell, Mr Durkan, how did the incineration of guests at La Mon, the shooting of church-goers at Darkley and the assassination of Protestant workmen at Teebane contribute to the causes you vociferously espouse?
A further example of the Democrats' obsession in placating the most nihilistic elements of IRA-inclined Americans came with John Kerry's call for an investigation into the awarding of a contract to a company owned by former Army officer, Tim Spicer. This is all because Spicer defended two Scots Guards who had, in his opinion, been wrongfully imprisoned (incidentally, Spicer's view is one I wholeheartedly concur with). Apparently, in Democratic Irish America, it's eh OK to speak up in defence of people who cited bodily dismemberment and playing with high explosives as pleasurable pastimes, but a mortal sin to have anything to do with a project linked to a current or former member of HM Armed Forces.
Another two reasons to call for four more years of Bush!!
