A Cunning Plan!

Newspapers in the Irish Republic are rife with stories mooting the possibility of an alliance between Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein/IRA. It all follows on from Dermot Ahern's opinion on the supposed inevitability of terrorist apologists holding important portfolios in a sovereign government.

Depending on which paper you read, the aforementioned prospect heralds either a new utopian epoch, or Armageddon. Naturally the Sunday Business Post is positively elated with any political arrangement designed to make the lives of Unionist people on the island that little bit more uncomfortable. Jody Corcoran in the Sunday Independent asserts a contrary dissentient line. He argues (using sentiments with which I fully concur) that the 'peace process' is a euphemistic term meaning 'Sinn Fein's grand plan to take over the South as it has the North'. Danny Morrison, the 'former' Sinn Fein guru who now moonlights as a catchpenny hack, once proclaimed the aim of republicanism as power acquisition in Ireland based on an Armalite and ballot box strategy.

Looking back on events to date one can hardly disagree with his prognostication - no matter how repulsive it has proven to be. Thanks to unprincipled lowborn prols with Masters Degrees from the Irish University of Terrorist Servility, Sinn Fein/IRA are rising in the polls with their capacity and capability to inflict mass slaughter largely intact. They have demolished the SDLP during the course of a peace process whereby the retention of weaponry has empowered them to suck all manner of concessions from democratic governments. Now, having corrupted and bastardised democracy and decency in Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein seek to do the same in the Republic. What is doubly tragic is that, in the name of nationalist camaraderie to pursue an unachievable objective ('Irish unity') members of Fianna Fail are prepared to tolerate the gradual erosion of their party's pre-eminence in order to accommodate the rapacious cancer of militant republicanism. How short-sighted can people be?
