FLIRTING BERTIE.
The Sunday Times has a useful leader on Bertie Ahern's flirtation with Sinn Fein. I can but agree with the content.
"Sinn Fein waged a criminal campaign of terror on this island for 25 years and still retains the mind-set of a terrorist organisation and the private army to go with it. By flirting with it, Bertie Ahern legitimises that party’s propaganda and insults the memory of those who died at its hands. Worse still, it fosters the illusion that Sinn Fein is a normal democratic organisation. It is not. He needs to be clear about that. The taoiseach lusts for a third term, but a third term must be achieved by good government, not bad politics."
