El Padrino
Godfather McGuinness has reached the apogee of arrogance. So much so he has now taken it upon himself to start issuing deadlines to democratic parties in Northern Ireland. Speaking in Belfast, Don McGuinness said Halloween should be the cut-off point for a decision on resurrecting Ulster's political institutions. Ironic really. Here we have Sinn Fein/IRA demanding a deadline on the day the world celebrates spooks and ghouls, and they have more spooks and ghouls in the background than any other terrorist outfit in Europe.
For nationalism, resuscitating the moribund Belfast Agreement is the only show they are interested in. It hasn't yet dawned on them that the Unionist people will never again tolerate a political situation anything like the one in existence since 1998. Furthermore, despite the vacuous threats of 'joint authority', the only other option to an agreement supported by the Unionist electorate is Direct Rule. As aforementioned, Irish nationalists can rescind their intransigence or else live with indefinite governance from London. Blair's 'peace train' (stoked by Hume-Adams) left the platform in 1997. It has now it the buffers and is set to languish there for a very long time.
