The Bloody Farce
Looks like Lord Saville and his republican-appeasement squad at the Bloody Sunday Tribunal have put their metaphoric feet in it again. Soldiers called to give evidence at this colossal sham of an enquiry are threatening to take the investigating team before an independent tribunal due to Saville's refusal to invoke the 'criminal standard of proof'.
When put in plain English, Saville is basically indicating that his team should be free to point the finger of blame at anyone they see fit (and without due verification) because they think it will curry favour with nationalist Ireland. Can you just imagine being a fly on the wall listening in to Saville as he consorts with his fellow enquirers?
'Toohey my old mucker. I think we'll incorporate into our report that Corporal Joe Bloggs of the Royal Parachute Regiment deliberately shot Paddy Mulligan in the backside with a machine gun. Naturally we have zilch in the way of proof, but I'm sure it's what dear Gerry and Martin would want us to write'.
This Bloody Sunday charade has been a monumental insult to all the other victims of the Troubles, and was established with no other intention than to placate the insatiable appetite of Irish nationalism. Now, as Saville struggles to cobble together anything resembling fact, it seems he is contemplating labelling blame on grounds which would not be permissible in any British court of law. I am fully aware that the tribunal does not have the status of a court. That said, the integrity of individuals is a stake here. Frantically searching around for a few crumbs of circumstantial and motivational blame just so IRA Godfathers can wring their hands with glee is even worse than the decision to set-up this roadshow in the first place.
