MBEKI IN DENIAL.



South African Charlene Smith was raped and stabbed back in 1999. This courageous lady has campaigned ever since to highlight the failure of the Rainbow Nation to deal effectively with the shocking rape statistics that prevail there. At the weekend, South African President Thabo Mbeki said that Ms Smith, and other journalists, saw black people as "barbaric savages".

He was angry about criticism of figures which showed a drop in levels of violent crime such as rape and murder.



"The president clearly has a problem with... sex and sexuality and that is delaying South Africa's capacity to effectively deal with sexual violence and HIV/Aids," said Charlene Smith. I think she is right. Whilst it seems to be heresy amongst liberal circles to say it, Mbeki is a disgrace.
