BY THE LEFT..
Interesting article in the ST flagging up that Fianna Fail, following its recent electoral drubbing intends to move "to the left"! Can someone explain to me how this Party was ever "on the right" that it is in a position to move to the left? Irish politics is overwhelmingly leftist with the only variance how FAR leftward each Party lies. I find this curious insofar as I assume that some Irish people may hold right-wing more conservative views. If they do, which Party could they support. For instance, which Irish Party is avowedly pro-Bush? Which Irish Party is anti-terrorism? Which Irish Party believes in rolling back the malign influence of Trade Unions? Which Irish Party puts the liberty of the individual before that of the State?
The Irish Republic has many good things going for it, in my opinion. But politically it is leftist with the oddity of having no right wing. Strange
