THE LAST DAYS OF SOCRATES AND THE SDLP.
Just for a few laughs, I am currently reading Plato's "The last days of Socrates." My favourite section in it is "The Phaedo" in which Socrates demonstrates his extra powers of insight and vision.
Now then, I also watched the SDLP's losing MEP candidate, Martin Morgan, being interviewed on UTV last night. He is Socrates in reverse and demonstrated a stunning lack of knowledge as to why his Party is in the hole it currently occupies.
It seems to me that the SDLP under Durkan does not compute! It has all the appeal of a bag of vomit. Poor Mark - he cursed with the zero charisma. His Party seems doomed to become a bit player - and that's whilst Hume is still around. The contrast with the DUP post Paisley could not be greater.
It saddens me that nationalism does not have a credible political party that unionists could work with. But the SDLP seems intent on following the same fate that awaited Socrates.
C'est la vie - as we say in our European salons.
