Losing His Virginity

Invoking the hoary old chestnut of 'racial discrimination' at employment tribunals has long been a feature of life here in the United Kingdom. If some members of the ethnic minority communities are dismissed for perfectly legitimate reasons, they automatically resort to playing to 'oppressed minority' card in a - frequently fruitful - effort to solicit money from erstwhile employers.

Take the case of Mohsin Mohmed as a prime example. Mohmed was recently sacked as a customer service assistant for Virgin Trains. He claims it was because he refused to trim his beard; whereas his employer contends that his inability to pass his probationary period satisfactorily was the real reason for his dismissal. Why on earth should Mohmed have been dismissed for sporting a beard (albeit one the size of Sherwood Forest around his chin) when Virgin's boss, Sir Richard Branson, also has a beard? Moreoever, why was the retention of the beard an absolute fundamental exemplar of religious observance? Many Muslims choose not to grow beards, after all, and nobody casts doubt on their devotion to Islam.

I rather suspect Mohmed's motivation has far more to do with earning an easy buck courtesy of the disgustingly liberal racial discrimination laws we employ in this country, than it has to do with an adherence to religious doctrines governing appearance and dress.
