Mark Steyn has a good take here on the growth of victim culture to it current position as the "default mode" of our times. He relates this to the manner in which Fleet Street, the UK and Irish Governments, and UK Muslim groups behaved during the weeks of the Bigley kidnapping. According to Mark, the Islamists reckon the West is too soft and decadent to muster the strength and resolution required for the long struggle. I reckon he's about right - and that is why a victory for Bush next month will send a clear signal to the Jihadists that enough Americans possess the resolve and wit to stand up to the Islamic menace and beat it. In a war, much as it distresses weenie-liberals, you have to have a winner and a loser.
